Shrine Stairs
In *Welcome to the N.H.K.*, Episode 1, the protagonist Satou Tatsuhiro leaves his apartment and walks down a long stone staircase. On one side stands a red torii gate and old trees, while the other side is lined with low houses. He walks with his head down, internally monologuing about his hopeless situation, heading toward the street at the bottom of the stairs.
