In *5 Centimeters per Second* (third story), adult Takaki Touno walks across a pedestrian bridge spanning multiple railway tracks. He slows down, gazing through the railing at an approaching train; below, the rails stretch into the distance, and above, the sky is open. This solitary walk foreshadows his passing encounter with Akari Shinohara at the railroad crossing moments later.
