In '5 Centimeters per Second', during the second chapter 'Cosmonaut', protagonist Takaki Tohno and Kanae Sumida stand together on a hilltop overlooking the town and the ocean. In the distance, a massive rocket launch tower is visible against the orange-red sunset sky. They stand side by side; Kanae tries to confess her feelings but fails, and can only smile as she watches Takaki leave. The hilltop has a bench and simple railings, surrounded by low grass, with a sloping field leading down to a residential area below.
