Pavilion in Shinjuku Gyoen
In *The Garden of Words*, on a rainy morning, schoolboy Takao Akizuki skips class and takes shelter in this east pavilion (a wooden gazebo) deep within the park. Soon after, a woman in a business suit and heels—Yukari Yukino—enters carrying beer and chocolate. Their first conversation unfolds against the sound of rain and lush green surroundings. The pavilion is wooden, equipped with benches, surrounded by trees, with a ground of mixed dirt and stone slabs.
