Fushimi Inari-taisha Great Torii
In *Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha*, the main characters arrive at a massive vermilion torii gate. The gate is supported by two thick pillars, with a long crosspiece (kasagi) and a second horizontal beam (shimaki) on top. Behind the gate stretches a long approach lined with countless smaller vermilion torii gates (Senbon Torii), with lush green mountains in the background. Inari stands under the gate, looking up at this solemn structure, as sunlight filters through the torii casting shadows.
