In front of Yamagata Station
In *Only Yesterday*, the protagonist Taeko arrives at a station in the Tohoku region after an overnight train from Tokyo. She steps out onto the station square with her luggage, surrounded by bus stops, taxis, and passersby. In the center of the square stands a clock tower, with the low mountains and clouds of Yamagata in the background. Taeko takes a deep breath, feeling the different air from Tokyo, and the main story begins here.
