Back and Forth on Tsurumaki Bridge
In *Brash Up Life*, a concrete bridge that the protagonist Kondo Mami and her friends frequently walk across. The bridge is short, with gray metal railings on both sides; there are no distinct lanes for vehicles and pedestrians, so they share the space. Beneath it flows a calm river, with low shrubs growing along the banks. In episode 2, Mami and her friends walk over it after school, laughing, with their long shadows stretching in the setting sun. At night, Mami is seen leaning alone on the railing, gazing at the distant lights lost in thought. Near the bridgehead, a utility pole and a signpost are familiar features in the frame.
