Sunset crossing
In *Sankarea*, Chihiro Furuya and Rea Sanka walk home together after school and approach a railroad crossing on a gentle slope. The setting sun paints the sky orange, and the crossing is flanked by low houses and distant mountains. As the warning bell rings and the barriers lower, they pause and wait for the train to pass. Rea’s identity as a zombie makes this ordinary daily moment especially poignant.
