Maneki-neko statue
In Penguindrum, the first episode opens with a shot of a shopping street entrance, where a giant red maneki-neko statue stands with its paw raised, as if welcoming customers. The three Takakura siblings often pass by here, and it has become a familiar symbol of the neighborhood.
