In Sound! Euphonium, after school in the school corridor, the setting sun spills through the windows onto the floor. Kumiko Oumae meets Reina Kousaka, who looks straight into her eyes and delivers the pivotal line that changes their relationship: “I want to become special.” The walls are adorned with brass band club posters, and the distant noise of club activities can be heard.
